Can RB Ian Wheeler make 53 man roster?

Buffalo Bills running back Ian Wheeler #27 has made a name for himself so far this preseason. He started gaining attention in training camp. He looked great in practice, and in the scrimmage against the Browns. He played very well in both preseason games.

Wheeler entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2024 with the Chicago Bears. In 2025 he spent sometime on the Saints practice squad. He also played in the UFL and made a name for himself there.

Will the 24 year old running back find a way onto the Bills 53 man roster? He would be the 4th back on the depth chart behind starter James Cook, Back up Ray Davis, and 3rd down specialist Ty Johnson. The Bills could potentially trade Johnson and still keep Wheeler as the 3rd back.

I’m hoping Wheeler makes this team some way or another. He’s a very shifty back that’s not afraid to lower his shoulder and run over defenders. His elusiveness, speed, and power could earn him a spot on the 2026 Buffalo Bills.
